As in elevated crane cabins, the technicians who service
wind farms need a personal escape and rescue system to be used in case
of an emergency. Because automatic descenders are heavy and expensive,
a wind tower is usually provided with only one. To avoid the time delay
when several people need to descend, personal escape systems using plastic
rope and carabiners have been introduced. However, appropriate training
from a tower is required to use such systems.
